Every student comes to the piano with different interests, goals, and ways of learning. My teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that students learn best when they feel personally connected to their music and have the tools and confidence to make it their own.
I love the process of getting to know each student as an individual and helping them discover repertoire that excites and inspires them. Regardless of their level, my goal is to help them develop a lasting, personal connection with music. I have taught students at every different level of piano playing and helped them create and reach realistic goals that work for their lives.
In lessons, I focus on building a strong technical foundation alongside excellent aural and music theory skills. These skills give students a broad musical toolkit which allows them to learn independently, solve musical problems, and make thoughtful artistic choices rather than simply play the notes on the page. I encourage students to participate in festivals and administer exams both in and outside of my studio that help ensure well-rounded skill building.
With the great sense of responsibility I feel to guide my students in their musical journeys comes an accompanying gratitude for the many teachers who have positively impacted my own growth as a musician and person throughout my life. Ultimately, I want to help my students develop confidence in their own musical voices, just as I have found confidence in mine.
